Book Club Recommended Advent & Christmas Books

Book Club INTERNAL IMAGE (internal to post) 600x214

Dear Friends,

I know many of you were looking forward to beginning a new book today: The Four Cardinal Virtues by Josef Pieper.

After laying out a schedule and realizing that we would need to break the book into several chunks with scheduled two-week breaks for both Thanksgiving and Christmas, we’ve decided that the book club would be better served if we wait until after the holidays to begin.

So we’ll meet you back here on January 6, with the announcement and reading schedule for The Four Cardinal Virtues. We’ll also post the first reading assignment on that day, so make sure you tune in!

In the meantime, we wanted to offer you a list of some of our favorite devotionals and prayer books for the Advent and Christmas seasons. With all the hustle and bustle of the holidays, it can be difficult to schedule time for prayer and reflection. But please, go out of your way to do just that, so that when you wake on Christmas morning to find our Lord in wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger, you can recognize The King of Kings with great wonder, awe, and passionate devotion, having prepared for His coming throughout the Advent season.

Here are just a few of our favorites – Please share your favorites below:

Divine Intimacy by Father Gabriel of St. Mary Magdalen, O.C.D.

In Conversation with God: Meditations for Each Day of the Year, Vol. 1: Advent, Christmas, Epiphany by Francis Fernandez

Advent Christmas Wisdom with Fulton J. Sheen: Daily Scripture and Prayers Together with Sheens Own Words (Advent and Christmas Wisdom)

O Radiant Dawn by Lisa Hendey

And for families with young children, a book by our own Sarah Reinhard:

Welcome Baby Jesus

In addition, please check our website for daily reflections throughout the Advent and Christmas seasons – may your devotions be fruitful and your holidays be blessed!

Happy reading!

In Christ,

Vicki Burbach
