Dear Friends,

For those who are not subscribers to this site, I sent out a notice this morning that my wife and son were in an accident last night and I asked for prayers. Here’s the note I sent out to our subscribers. Thank you for your prayers. I will provide an update soon. Please forward this along through Facebook and other means to those who you know will pray and assist.

Rembrandt_Christ_in_the_Storm_on_the_Lake_of_Galilee Wikimedia Commons for post on car accident and attackLast night my wife and son were in a car accident. They were hit by a young woman who was in the midst of a domestic situation and already suffering a great deal. The good news is that all are physically ok. This is not something I would normally share with you but it marks the near end of a week that has been extraordinarily challenging.

A consecrated woman who has committed her life to prayer for me and others told me she experienced a significant spiritual battle on Tuesday night. She said that the Lord drew her constantly to pray for me all night. It was the next day that we discovered that the site had been hacked and malicious code with advertisements had been inserted in most of the posts (this was just a diversionary tactic to hide the worst of the attack).

Yesterday we discovered that many of our posts had been deleted. Last night we then found out that the backup we had setup for the site has not been working since June.

To top it all off, we have also had challenges with the Avila Institute software that impacted every student in our first Introduction to Spiritual Theology Class (which is going very well in spite of these hurdles) and this placed a temporary but heavy burden on our faculty and staff. Beyond that, there have also been personal attacks this week on me and on our school administrator.

The good news is that all involved have a sense of peace and calm in the midst of this storm. As I write this note to you I am particularly aware of the supernatural nature of the peace I have at this moment. Even so, there is urgent action required to remedy these situations. Yes, I have peace, but I am tired and simply must trust the Lord to be able to find the time and resources necessary to win this fight.

So, I write this to ask you, my friends, for two things:

  • First, I would be grateful if you would please take a few minutes to pray for all involved today. So many of you write to express how your engagement with the RCSD family and the content of the site have been life-changing for you. Even more so, the students of the Avila Institute are constantly noting the extraordinary nature of their experience as their hearts are set aflame by the work of God through their studies and interaction with our unique approach to spiritual theology.
  • Second, in order to protect ourselves from these situations in the future we will be required to increase our investment in technology infrastructure and security. As you might suspect, this is not in our current budget and thus we have a serious need for your help. Normally we don't ask folks who are already giving to give more but I have no choice in this situation. I would also ask all those of you who don't already give to consider helping us out on a monthly basis. If just a few of you increase your giving by $5.00 a month and a few of you begin giving that amount or more, we will be able to offset these costs. Thank you in advance for your generosity. Please click here to see the options for giving and please know that I am grateful for any help you can give, especially prayer. If you can't click on this link, just go to the site and click on “Donate” portion of the navigation bar at the top. Don't worry, your financial information will be safe as our donation site is completely separate and is as secure as Fort Knox.

Gratefully Yours in Christ,

Dan Burke
