Week 1 on the Road with Fr Hilton

Last Tuesday, June 2, Fr John Hilton dipped his bike in the Pacific Ocean off of Anacortes, Washington and began his trip across the country.

Week 1 Avila to Aspen Updates -

9 days since he left.

66 hours on the bike.

579.18 miles covered.

5486 feet in elevation.

If you’ve missed any of Fr. Hilton’s posts this week, here’s a brief summary:

Day 1: One of Fr. Hilton’s biggest worries was rain, and he had nothing but rain the very first day!

Day 2: A grueling day of climbing and climbing

Day 3: A closer look at the Mass kit that packs up so small Fr. Hilton can take it across the country on a bike

Day 4: Republic, Washington and the desire for a joy that’s infectious

Day 5: A lovely lake, a delicious meal, Mary from Washington, and a wrong turn

Day 6: A reflection on how many pedal strokes and thoughts on the Body and Blood of Christ

Day 7: Idaho, Priest River, Michele from Italy, and shoe repair

Day 8: Montana! Fr. Hilton projects that it will take him about nine days to travel it.

About Fr. John Hilton

I've been a Catholic priest for 34 years, come from a family of nine children and love this life to which God has called me! For the past four years I’ve served as pastor of Saint Mary Parish, founded by silver miners and adventurers in 1882 in the heart of what is now the resort community of Aspen, Colorado. I’ve bicycled across the United States to spread the word that this beautiful mountain town, known for its skiing, mountaineering, and cultural events, is rapidly becoming a powerful place to grow in your relationship with Jesus Christ through dynamically orthodox conferences and seminars in service of the New Evangelization. We hope to see you in Aspen!

Hello Father! I just discovered your journey through an email from Spiritual Direction. What an adventure! I see that you’re about to head into Montana. After that, will you be heading across ND as well? We’re in Fargo so I just had to ask. Best of luck and safe traveling!!

Hi Jen S – Yes, Father will be heading across North Dakota. If you go to this map, you will see his proposed trek across the northern part of the U.S. Here is the link (scroll down to see the map):
