“Love patiently rises above hardships and all kinds of persecution” – Day 3

Yesterday I had a conversation with one of my 12 year old sons. We were talking about college and I brought up the topic that so many young people leave their faith when they reach college. He said “but mom, I won’t leave the faith, you have taught me, and I know you teach me truthfully.” I said “son, you will not be able to keep your faith for love of me alone, you must love our Lord, you must love Jesus – Him alone. It is the love of Him that will keep you faithful.” He paused, and said “I love Jesus, mom, I love Him.”

While I realize his love is young, and the tiny flames in his heart is still mingled by my own flame given to him, there will come a day he will be asked to depart; where he will be tried, so that the flame in his heart burn solely for love of God — there is only one way to sieve the flames in our hearts – it is trial. I know this.

Dan, thank you a million times for this. This is exactly the support I need to live out my duties and mission in life. It helps me to remember my priorities, what comes first, because we can all get distracted by everyday life. This is a blessing esp. because I’ve read about St. Teresa of Avila. I recently became a secretary here in my Diocese and it’s hard hearing so many people with so many different opinions. God Bless!

From the radio show: “The only love that is really worth anything is that which is disciplined by trials and spent in sacrifice.” This really sums up the gist of the rich content of today’s podcast. This is where it gets hard in our travels in the spiritual life…it is the only way that we can advance. It is easy to love God because He is so lovable with sentiments and feelings BUT we must take the next step and show Him our love concretely by accepting His Will in our life by peaceably accepting our trials in order to benefit spiritually from them. We begin to truly love when we sacrifice for others…just like Jesus did for us. The Lord is patient with us and awaits our willingness to do His Will with love, giving up our will for His Will. This is what makes a saint. Thanks you Melissa & Dan. I really, really, really enjoy these podcasts!
