One of the Best Decisions of My Adult Life

As we near the close of registration for Spring Quarter courses, I thought I would share a particularly moving testimonial from a student at Avila Institute.

Coming to the Avila Institute for Spiritual Formation has been one of the best decisions of my adult life. Why? Because it has brought into focus the most important reason for my existence — to know and love God with all my heart, all my mind, all my soul, and all my strength. It has made me want to start anew each day, with God’s grace, to love and serve all of those around me. What I am learning is helping me to find God’s plan for me within my vocation as a wife, mother, and friend.

Participating in these classes, both in the Graduate program and School for Spiritual Formation with such faith-filled professors has opened my eyes to the beauty, the magnificence of our Catholic faith. But even more, each class has been an experience of God’s presence and interaction with and through everyone there. It has awakened and deepened my gratefulness for all the gifts of God through the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, Christ in the Eucharist, prayer, the Sacraments, the Gospels, and Sacred Scripture, the Blessed Mother, and from the wisdom of the Saints who have gone before us.

I thank God every day for this gift in the Avila Institute and that I opened it!

Well said. I must admit my own ignorance of the beauty of our Catholic faith was probably similar to most Catholics. I met an OCD friar at a course on Spiritual Theology and he introduced me to the Discalced Carmelite Order and the writings of Teresa of Avila and John of the Cross. To know about their writings and to be a Carmelite are 2 different things but to start the journey of growth in the spiritual life their writings are most important.
