Spiritual Warfare – Book Picks

I thought it would be fitting to turn our hearts to something holy and good – spiritual warfare. So, here are the book picks for that:

Regarding my first recommendation, Interview with an Exorcist, if you have been a regular reader of this site you have seen many excerpts from this book.

Interview with an Exorcist is the most comprehensive and sound treatment of demonology that I have ever encountered. If knowing the enemy is an important aspect of spiritual warfare, this book is by far the best resource in this respect. Here’s more from the publisher:

In today’s culture of scientific enlightenment, many consider belief in demonic possession and exorcism to be superstitious remnants of the Dark Ages. Even many Christians, contrary to the clear words of Jesus in the Gospel, scoff at the notion that the Devil and demons really exist. Is demonic possession real? Are believers really in any danger from Satan and his crafty minions? What is the truth about exorcism? This book has these answers, and much more and contains 100 questions and answers on the topic.

The second book I recommend is written by a layman who also has a tremendous amount of experience in deliverance ministry. His name is Neal Lozano and the book is entitled, Resisting the Devil: A Catholic Perspective on Deliverance. Neal’s approach is level-headed, balanced, in keeping with Church teaching, and avoids the common sensationalism that often accompanies books on this topic. He has also written another fantastic book on the topic entitle Unbound – A Practical Guide to Deliverance. Here’s more from the publisher on Resisting the Devil:

Do you feel chained to a particular sin pattern that you cannot break? Do you still feel guilty, ashamed, and doomed to repeat a besetting sin even after receiving the sacrament of Reconciliation?

Then you may find a way to spiritual freedom through deliverance prayer.
In Resisting the Devil, author Neal Lozano shows that sometimes evil spirits tell us lies that lock us into sins and personal problems. He explains the practice of deliverance, a way of dealing with such demonic influences that is supported by the teaching and tradition of the Catholic Church.
– Learn how to recognize the activity of evil spirits
– See how deliverance from spiritual bondage can be gentle, safe, and effective
– Understand how deliverance differs from exorcism and how deliverance and Reconciliation can work together
– Read the testimonies of women and men who have been freed through deliverance ministry.
