Interior Freedom Week 1 of 5

From the back of the book:

Despite the most difficult situations that can restrain our physical movement, each person has deep inside a place of freedom that no external power can take away, because God himself is its source. A person wins inner freedom to the extent that he connects to its source–God himself–by practicing the virtues of faith, hope, and charity. These theological virtues are the center of the spiritual life. As the basis for interior growth, they become the source of the glorious freedom of the children of God.

Written in a simple and inviting style, this book seeks to liberate the heart and mind to enable it to live the true freedom to which God calls each one.

    Hi Sarah,
I want to try to keep up with the book club. I’ve purchased the ebook….
I hope I can stay on track.

    • CatherineA

I have found Fr. Philippe’s writing to be a delightful combination of deep yet simple. His books are short but profound, and packed with powerful spiritual advice. I don’t think you’ll have any difficulty keeping up; you may find yourself not wanting to put it down!

      • Camila

I am looking forward to it Catherine! It is my first reading by Fr. Phillipe. Thank you so much for the encouragement!

        • danhorse

I just saw this book club today and am very excited because I have gotten a lot out of Fr. Philippe’s writing. Another excellent book he’s written is The Way of Trust and Love-A Guided Retreat with St. Therese of Lisieux. It’s good stuff. Looking forward to the discussions!

His books are easier for me to follow. I think because they are relatively small booklets. Mean and Lean – in other words – lots of depth but not to esoteric. My sister-in-law had Fr. Jacque give a Mission at her church and they recorded his talks. I’ve downloaded the podcasts and enjoy listening to him!

  • Jennifer

Hi Sarah, what a treat to see what book you have chosen. I have all of Jacque Philippe’s books. I affectionately call him my portable spiritual director – you can take him anywhere you go! I’d love to join the discussion.

  • Suzi

Hi Sarah, I have read this book and keep my copy on my favorite book shelf. What a treasure. I am looking forward to reading this with everyone. Blessings

  • Jennifer_RS

I am looking forward to reading this book (already started taking a peek!), I have not read anything by this author. I’ve never been part of a Book Club, and I’m going to try my best to keep up and not make a fool of myself! SIDE NOTE: My situation in life has changed – major move across the country recently with my family, everything is new and different; I stumbled across this site and Book Club certainly guided by the Holy Spirit. I can’t explain it, maybe it’s the book selections or comments, but reading the last book (I jumped in around Week 10) and reading the comments has helped ease my spirit and made me feel much better since we’ve moved. A fresh breath of real Roman Catholic Spirituality and affirmation, especially since I have such a long way to go – thank you!!

you’re in for a treat. Another good book of his that I’m trying to finish and highly recommend is In the School of the Holy Spirit (and I still want to read The Way of Trust and Love and Time for God )

  • Kate

I read Searching for and Maintaining Peace, it was wonderful. I look forward to this as well although my copy hasn’t arrived yet! I’ll try and catch up when it does.

  • Excellent choice!!!

I’m so looking forward to reading this book. I’m like a sponge at his feet (well at least his book) soaking up his wisdom. Can’t wait to get my hands on this book and follow along.

  • Tina

    Hi Sarah,
I recently found this book club and I, too, am looking forward to reading the book and joining the discussion. I bought the ebook. I am unfamiliar with the writings of Fr. Jacque Phillipe, so this will be a new author and book for me to explore.

    • LizEst

Welcome Tina! We are please that you’ve joined us. Fr. Phillipe writes with great clarity. He managed to say a lot with few words. I have found him a delight to read. Enjoy the discussions…and God bless you!

  • Jeanette

I wish I could join you this time around but I can’t. I need to finish a review of a book called Rebuilt for our Parish Priest who hasn’t the time to read it himself but wants my opinion regarding helping him decide the direction our Parish should take. God willing, I will join you in the next one…. God bless!

    • Oh please call me on this one.

      • Jeanette

Thank you Dan. I really do appreciate the advice you gave me regarding ‘Rebuilt.’. You are generous, kind and a discerning man of God. God bless you always in all ways!

  • Robert Kraus

This is the first time for me for this book and author, so I’m looking forward to it. Been away from the book club for a little while…

    • Vicki

We’ve missed you! Glad you’re back – and I have a feeling you’re going to love this book!

    • LizEst

Hey Robert! I echo Vicki’s sentiment below. We’ve missed you. You’ve come back at a great time. This is an excellent author. Easy to read and understand…and, at the same time, deep. Welcome back…and God bless you!

  • Jennifer Caiazzo

Okay so maybe this is a dumb question- but where can I purchase or find this book? Sarah is awesome~ Love her (:

  • Karen H

Hi Sarah, This is my first time joining anything online, but was intrigued with the choice of the book which I happened to have started reading just yesterday. I look forward to understanding more fully the concept of Interior Freedom. To answer Jennifer’s question about where to purchase the book … I bought it on Amazon. It is also available on the Kindle. Karen H

    • LizEst

Welcome Karen H! We’re pleased you are joining the book club here. Sounds like the Holy Spirit has led you here! God bless you!

  • Grammie’n Pockie

This is my first time joining the book club also. I have never read anything from this author but I look forward to this introduction to her. 🙂

I have been having a very hard time dealing with some physical suffering this past year. It’s a foreign experience to me & has presented me with some limitations that I am unaccustomed to & feeling very “down” about. So when I read the description of Sarah’s book regarding “difficult situations restricting our physical movements”, I couldn’t believe my eyes!!! It was like the Lord was speaking directly to ME.
I’ve started reading the book & it’s wonderful ready! I can’t wait to read more.
    Through Jesus & Mary~ Andrea

    • LizEst

Welcome Andrea! We’re happy you are joining us. God bless you! Glad you like what you’ve read so far.

      • Grammie’n Pockie

Thank you Liz! This book is absolutely *wonderful* and a real blessing to me. I pray it is to everyone else as well. ~Andrea xoxo

        • Grammie’n Pockie

Just as a little “aside”, if you could please keep our daughter Bailey in your prayers. She is receiving the sacrament of Confirmation this evening. Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your faithful & enkindle in us (& especially the Confirmandi) the fire of Your love. Amen.

  • Willie

I’m another new member to the book club. I’m currently on a journey of faith that is leading me to the Catholic Church. I’ve not read any of Fr. Jacques’ works before, but I began reading Interior Freedom this morning and am very impressed! I want to re-read this week’s section so I can really absorb his message.

    • Vicki

Willie, So glad you’ll be joining us! After reading this week’s assignment twice, I hope you’ll be sure to comment next week – No doubt you’ll have lots to add to the discussion!

  • Rita Mohacsi

A few day or so you sent me an email as to why some relate more to God the Father, some to Jesus and some more to the Holy Spirit or Mary. Could you send it again please.

    • Jeanette

  • Laurie

Hello! I’m new to the book club and look forward to reading Fr. Jacques Philippe’s book. I have read two of his books and enjoyed them tremendously. Thank you.

  • Mary L Nelson

I am new to this website and the Book Club, but look forward to participating with this group. Does the moderator for the book club post questions on the book for discussion, or do we just jump in with our thoughts on the reading selection for the week?

    • LizEst

Welcome Mary! We pleased to have you join us. To answer your question. It’s both! The book club moderators (yes, there are two) will have both have questions on the book and will invite additional comments. So, feel free to do either or both. It contributes to a lively discussion…and we learn and grow from it. God bless you, Mary!

  • mitchek7

Hello, I am new to the book club as well, and this is my first time reading this book or anything by this author. I am very excited. I read the first chapter and am impressed so far with the subject.

  • Yes! I have read this books from this author before…all of them! Can you tell I love Fr Jacques Philippe? In fact I just ordered his newest book late last night. I am so excited to reread interior freedom.

  • Amy W.

I just joined the club. I have not read this book and just ordered. Will catch up with the discussion soon.

  • Debbie Callahan

The Holy Spirit works in amazing ways. I am new to the RC Book Club and have watched both the online interview w Father Philippe and purchased Interior Freedom. What an appropriate book for me to read during Lent. I am behind by one week and will post when I have caught up.
