 Book Club Information

Book Club INTERNAL IMAGE (internal to post) 600x214

Dearest Book Club Friends,

I'm writing this post to share a few important pieces of information.

First, hopefully, you've noticed the new book club graphic.  A wonderful artist, Suzanne Hurtig, created this for us, so that book club posts would be easily identifiable.  From now on, this is the graphic you will see atop all book club posts.

Second, but not least important, I wanted to address an issue that seems to come up periodically on Tuesdays.  Every day, new posts for the website are sent to subscribers via a daily digest.  Often on Tuesday, the Book Club post is either the first on the list or it is the only post released that day.  On those days, readers seem to have no problem finding and reading the latest entry for the book club. However, sometimes, there are more posts released on Tuesday, and the Book Club post is not the first listed in the digest.  When that happens, I receive emails from readers claiming they have not received their book club post that week.  If you have also had that problem, it is may be that you didn't realize the Catholic Spiritual Direction email sent each day is a daily “digest” of all posts released on that day.  Even if you don't see the Book Club in the subject line of our email notification, please open the email and scroll down until you find the book club listing.

Finally, if you've been wanting to check out the book club, this is the perfect opportunity for you to jump in. Next Tuesday, we'll be introducing our next book: The Secret Diary of Elisabeth Leseur.  Please join us for this beautiful and inspirational book – you won't be disappointed!

  • Thanks Vicki. As usual, on this one, I will tag along and be educated by the Responses from the “Family”. And when I have a comment to make, please oblige this old gal. Be blessed.

    • LizEst

We love your comments, Mary. You are always welcome. How is the new grandbaby?

    • Vicki

Ditto Liz ! Mary, please comment often – your humor and wisdom are edifying and much appreciated!!!!

  • Jeanette

Love the new graphic of Jesus with Mary and Martha…it’s very beautiful and so appropriate. It helps to remind us to always seek, like Mary, ‘the better part.’ And, of course, that’s what this Book Club helps us to do. God bless.

Dear Vickie: I don’t often comment on the readings but I do follow them and derive much comfort and insight from the comments of all of them. I would like to ask for prayers for me because I’ve had a 5 week bout of poor health, including a weeks stary in the hospital. During this time I have not been able to attend morning Mass. Now that I’m feeling much better, I’m having trouble getting up in time to go to Mass! I ask for prayers to help me overcome this period of indiscipline. Screwtape was enlightening is regard to my current situation. Thanks, and God bless you all. Donald

    • LizEst

You are in my prayers, Donald. Try going to Mass every now and then! This may sound like strange advice. But, if you can’t do it all at once, go once a week, or a couple of times a week. Go for special occasions or special feasts. Celebrate a birthday or anniversary by going to Mass. Observe a Saint’s memorial that has special meaning for you by going to Mass. Because you will receive Jesus at morning Mass, each communion will make you stronger spiritually until one day you will observe that you are going to morning Mass every day again…and you will marvel at how that happened, almost imperceptibly not unlike that small, still voice with which the Lord speaks to us. God bless you, Donald.

      • frtrue75@att.net

Dear LizEst: Thank you. I took your advice and got up in time to make the morning Mass (8 a.m.) on Thursday. Your prayers mean to lot to me. God bless you. Donald

        • LizEst

How wonderful to learn you made it to Mass this morning. Let us praise the Lord and give Him thanks!

    • Vicki

Donald, I will certainly keep you in my prayers! In Christ, Vicki

      • frtrue75@att.net

Dear Vickie: Thank you. It is funny how much joy I get in opening the CSD file every morning. I feel like I have friends who I will never see in person or talk to in person, yet when I open the file there are the wonderful words and pictures of smiling faces and I feel like I’m greeting people I’ve known all my life. God bless you. Donald

Looking forward to the next book which I bought several months ago and having been reading slowly. Looking forward to hearing others comments. This is my situation, a husband who is not a practicing Christian and I often pray to Elisabeth for her intercession. God Bless!

  • Tdwunder

Just bought the kindle edition. I have wanted to read this book for a long time now. I look forward to the discussion even if I don’t always participate in it.

    • Renee Costello

How were you able to get it? I went to the Amazon site and it was not offered in Kindle and there was a link to request that the author make it available in Kindle so I did that. It was available in Nook, is that what you meant?

      • Tdwunder

No, I got the kindle version from Amazon. The link took me to the paperback so I clicked on kindle then ebooks and there it was!

        • Renee Costello

Thanks, I’ll try that next time I’m having trouble finding a book in the kindle version.

      • Tdwunder

Wow! I just went to Amazon from my kindle fire and you are right, it is not there!!! So, I went to Amazon on my iPod and it is on their mobile site which is the way I bought it…strange…it also appeared on my kindle…go figure!

        • LizEst

See my link above. I don’t have a Kindle but it looks like this could be it.

      • LizEst

Renee – I don’t have a Kindle but did a quick search. Is this what you are looking for? It says Kindle edition here: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00916NFCO/ref=kcp_casc_buybook/?showKP=true

        • Renee Costello

Thanks! I did see it there, strange that it didn’t show up when I tried searching it. I searched the book name and kindle and kept getting the page that said it wasn’t offered.

  • Alexandra Campbell

Great book! I bought and read this several years back after my husband stopped practicing the Faith and left our 14 year Catholic marriage. I will try to read along again with all of you wonderful people. Hopefully it will reinvigorate my prayers for my poor lost “ex” husband who is now in prison. Please pray for my two teenage boys who are having to go through these formative years without a father…

    • LizEst

My prayers for you and your boys…your ex, too. God bless you, Alexandra.

  • Mary Therese

I have a book that includes many (all?) of the writings of Elisabeth Leseur–have loved reading it. I will try to follow along. I’ve missed reading the book club choices the last several months, but summer with 4 teens…chaos (mostly all fun, though, through the chaos).

  • joha0621

    Dear Vicki,
Very excited about this new book. Just downloaded my copy of The Secret Diary of Elisabeth Leseur on my Kindle. Since this version does not show page numbers, will you be providing us chapter titles to follow along? Thank you and God bless!

    • Vicki

Definitely! Glad you’ll be joining us!

  • Jeanette

Thank you Vicki for the explanation of the daily digests. I was one of those who thought each posting came individually!
