Saint Mark the Evangelist, Pray for Us!

This feast day celebrates Saint Mark the Evangelist, wrote the Gospel on or before the year 60 AD in Rome. He is usually identified with the Mark in Acts 12:12.  His gospel is the shortest of the four gospels, and scholars have determined that it is is also the oldest of them as well.  He was not one of the Twelve Apostles. And, it is thought, by some, that he founded the Church in Alexandria, Egypt.  He is often associated with a winged lion, which is said to come from the description of John the Baptist as the voice of one crying out in the desert as seen in Mark 1:3.  It is also said speculated that he is the young man wearing a linen cloth in the Garden of Gethsemene, who was seized at the time Jesus was arrested, but fled away naked.
