Hundreds of you have read and responded with excitement about our new Spiritual Direction book club supported by our cast of amazing volunteers. A priest wrote in yesterday and asked an important question, “How do I participate?” Once you have registered, there are only three things to do, 1) Prepare, 2) Read, 3) Respond.

Here’s a bit more detail on how to get started:

  1. Read the first post announcing the club for more background on our book club leader and the program in general.
  2. If you have not already done so, subscribe to the Catholic Spiritual Direction site posts by entering your email in the “Subscribe Free Via Email” in the column to the right of this post (if you receive daily email updates from the site, you have already done this).
  3. IMPORTANT: Send a quick email to RCSpiritualDirection@gmail.com so we can send specific updates and resources for club members. Use “Book Club” in the subject line. In the body of the email, please indicate the city and state or country you live in. If you are a priest or religious, please indicate as such along with your parish or order/movement or prelature information as well.
  4. Acquire and read the selected book according to the schedule Vicki provides.
  5. Respond to book club posts and interact with the other readers as they dig deeper into their faith. This will all happen in the comment boxes of the posts. We may also provide some online interactive abilities in the future but you must complete step three above in order to get updates about these special events.

It really is just that simple!

Vicki will send you a post on Tuesday of this week which will outline the first reading and other important items.

We are looking forward to serving you in this new adventure!

The book is free on Internet Archives and can be downloaded into all e-readers

    • LizEst

Thank you so much Karen. That’s wonderful news. Do you have the web address for that?

      • Karen

Here is the link to Internet Archives to read or listen to the book for free.

There are several different versions to pick from for some have addtional books added to the back and there is an audio version as well of the book

As a note when it is downloaded into a Kindle some of the wording is a little messed up in some places.

I was able to find this book to read online with the website as follows:

very interested in reading this book & participating.

  • City Kitty

Being an Episcopalian, I don’t know if I would be allowed to join, but I can recommend an excellent book I now am reading. It’s “The Mystical City of God” by the Venerable Mary of Agreda. This book is NOT quickly or easily read. The translation I’m using is by the Rev. George J. Blatter under the pseudonym of Fiscar Marison. Although an acknowledged abridged paperback version, the text alone consumes 794 pages. It is not difficult to understand, but does not read quickly. I recommend it.

Dear Kitty – all are welcome! The only qualification is that in keeping with the mission of this site, we are working to dig into Catholic/historic Christian spirituality rather than exploring others that may or may not fall directly within this tradition. Other than that, please join us!

I ordered from Amazon, but it will take 6 – 8 days to arrive. I’ll have to catch up when it arrives.

I’m looking forward to this group, thank you for putting it together Dan and Vicki!

I’ve been outof town and just acted on #3 in this post. I didn’t get Vicki’s Tuesday post outing lining the first reading or the “other” impotant items. I wonder if you could add it to comments here for those who missed it?

  • Inquisitor221B

    @Anne:disqus
Gomes: I have several versions of the Imitation, but by far my favorite is the version translated by Ronald Knox & Michael Oakley. If memory serves, I do not believe it cost very much on Amazon.

This is my first participation in this book club and I look forward to our discussions!

Welcome Inquisitor221B! We are happy you are joining us. God bless you!
